Scale

The Montessori Scale is a Sensory and Maths educational material used to introduce children to the concepts of weight, balance and measurement. It is made of wood and has two hanging plates and a set of weights of different sizes and colors.

What does the child learn with the scale?
Basic physical concepts: The child directly experiences the notions of "heavier", "lighter" and "equality".
Logical thinking and problem solving: Through successive attempts (trial and error), the child looks for solutions to bring the scale into balance.
Early math skills: Facilitates the understanding of addition and counting by associating the quantity of objects with their weight.
Fine motor skills: Manipulating small weights and placing them precisely on the plates develops hand-eye coordination.

This tool transforms an abstract concept such as "the mass of an object" into a clear tactile and visual experience.
