For babies (approximately 8-12 months), the “3-drawer box” is a material for hand-eye coordination and understanding of object permanence, being an evolution of the simple box with a single drawer.
Here are its characteristics and role:

1. Material structure
It is a small wooden cabinet with three identical drawers, each with a rounded handle (knob), easy for little hands to grasp.

2. What does the baby learn?
Object permanence: The child learns that an object continues to exist even if he no longer sees it (when he closes the drawer).
Working memory: He must remember in which of the three drawers he hid the object.
Fine motor control: Opening and closing the drawers by grasping the knob trains “pincer grip” and wrist strength.
Order and Categorisation: Baby begins to explore concepts such as “inside”, “outside” and “full/empty”.

3. How to use
Initial stage: Parent places an object in a drawer while baby watches, then closes it. Baby is encouraged to find it.
Advanced stage: All three drawers are used with different objects. Baby learns to open the specific drawer to find the desired toy.
